President Greets the New President of Lebanon

The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, has congratulated His Excellency Gen. Michel Sleiman upon his election as the President of Lebanon from "The Retreat" in Shimla. The President has wished him good health and for continued peace and prosperity of Lebanon.

In a letter the President has said "On my behalf and that of the people of India, I extend warm felicitations and good wishes upon your election as the President of Lebanon. Your elevation to high office is a triumph of democratic processes and will undoubtedly contribute to the further progress and prosperity of Lebanon and its enterprising and friendly people.

I am confident that the strong and varied ties that have happily existed between our two countries and peoples will be further cemented in the coming years."
