The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee in his message on the eve of the martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadur has said, "The Martyrdom Day of Guru Teg Bahadurji is an occasion when we should draw inspiration from the teachings of the great Guru and strive to be worthy of his noble legacy.

Guru Teg Bahadurji was a leader who taught us the importance of oneness of all humankind, selfless service and righteousness. His vision transcended all barriers of caste, creed, race, religion and gender. On this day, let us renew our commitment to peace and non-violence. Let us pledge to strongly oppose forces that seek to spread enemity and terror. Let us strive to unite all humanity under the umbrella of a common brotherhood.”
