President Unveils A Bronze Statue Of Late Shri K. Karunakaran

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee unveiled a bronze statue of late Shri K. Karunakarn, former Chief Minister of Kerala today (December 20, 2013) at Kanakakunnu Palace, Thiruvananthapuram.

Speaking on the occasion, the President described Shri Karunakaran as an outstanding politician of the contemporary period. He had a long and colourful legislative life. He entered political life at a young age and was member of the Praja Mandalom of Kochi, the Travancore- Kochi Assembly as well as the Kerala Legislative Assembly. He saw the evolution of the state from colonial and princely rule to a modern vibrant democracy. He was a versatile personality and the rare combination of a popular leader and skilled administrator. If Kerala is today a model state in terms of socio-economic indicators, it is also because of the contributions of Shri Karunakaran.
