Officer Trainees of Indian Police Service Call on the President

Rashtrapati Bhavan : 11.11.2016

A group of officer trainees of 68 RR (2015 Batch) ofIndian Police Service from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad called on the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (November 11, 2016).

Speaking on the occasion, the President said that they are the face of administration and represent the state to the people. Their role is not only multi-dimensional but also complex. Those days are gone when the job of a Police Officer was to maintain law and order. Today, with the emergence of the concept of welfare state the role of Police personnel has changed. In addition to their core function of maintaining law and order more elements have been added to their functions. He said that they should train themselves to handle cyber crimes, black money, kidnapping etc. There are two other important challenges i.e. the problems of insurgency and terrorism which are closely interlinked with internal and external security. Terrorism has spread its tentacles throughout the world. They have no respect for any ideology except the wanton destruction of humanity. He advised them to remember that learning is a life long process and they should discharge their responsibilities without fear or favour. This required nerves of steel along with a smiling face.
