Militancy Affected Children from All Districts of Jammu and Kashmir Meet The President

A group of more than 150 children affected by militancy in the State of Jammu and Kashmir met the President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on February 11, 2012. The children were part of the Youth Exchange Programme called, "Waton Ko Jano" organized by the Jammu and Kashmir State Rehabilitation Council with the support of the Department of Jammu and Kashmir Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Various groups visited Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Jaipur and interacted with children of their age group (15-20 years). Speaking to the children, the President said she was deeply disturbed that all of them had lost members of their families due to militancy. She urged them not to fall victim to certain misguided elements in their State, who do not want to see Jammu and Kashmir progress. She said the children must spend their time in constructive activities and study well so that they can contribute to the progress of their State and India. The President wished them well for the future and said all of India, is with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
