President Will Inaugurate the International Conference on “the Future of Universities in India” on March 21

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate a three day international Conference on "The Future of Universities in India: Comparative Perspectives on Higher Education Reforms for a Knowledge Society”, at the O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) in Sonipat on 21 March 2013.
The thematic sessions at the three day Conference are devoted to such important themes as the Indian university in a comparative perspective; research, knowledge creation and publications: responsibilities of a university; humanities and the liberal arts: the remaking of the Indian university; interdisciplinary in higher education: management, public policy and international relations; knowledge sharing for policy impact: universities, think tanks and international organizations; the university, community and the professions: their symbiotic relationship; quality assessment and international benchmarks: promoting excellence in higher education; leadership and innovation in universities: institution building for nation building.
One of the main focal points of the conference is to discuss and debate the situation relating to Indian universities in the context of the rankings of global universities.
The Vice Chancellors, Presidents and Deans of leading universities in India and abroad are participating in the Conference.
