President of India to Visit West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar Islands From January 9 to 13

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee will visit West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar Islands from January 9 to 13, 2014.

On January 10, 2014, the President will attend the 48th Convocation of Indian Statistical Institute at Kolkata. On the same day, he will inaugurate the 125th Anniversary of the Chanchal Siddheswari Institution at Chanchal, Malda. He will also launch a campaign on scientific understanding of posthumous body donation on the occasion of the 178th anniversary of the first dissection of human cadaver in Asia at Raj Bhavan, Kolkata on January 10, 2014.

On January 11, 2014, the President will present the Sunil Gangopadhyay Memorial Award for the year 2012 & 2013 to Shri Nirendranath Chakraborty and Shri Sankha Ghosh respectively at Raj Bhavan, Kolkata. On the same day, he will travel to Port Blair where his programme begins with laying of a wreath at Marty’s Column at National Memorial Cellular Jail and a Civic Reception at Netaji Stadium.

On January 12, 2014, the President will inaugurate the Andaman & Nicobar Tribal Research Institute at Port Blair.

On January 13, 2014, the President will visit the Tsunami Memorial at Big Lapathy and the Mus Church at Car Nicobar. He will also interact with Tribal Council Members at Passa Beach, Car Nicobar before returning to Delhi.
