President of India Lays Foundation Stone of a Sewage Treatment Plant and Inauguration Jhelum Residential Complex at President's Estate

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee laid the foundation stone of a Sewage Treatment Plant and inaugurated Jhelum Residential Complex at President’s Estate today (February 17, 2014).

IIT, Delhi has been appointed as the technical consultant for this Sewage Treatment Plant. This Plant is in accordance with recommendation of the Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan (CCMP) by INTACH to fulfill the requirements of water supply particularly for horticulture purpose. The Sewage Treatment Plant has a capacity of 20 lakh litres wastewater treatment. The total water supply to the President’s Estate from NDMC and other sources is 25 lakh litres. 80% of this is generated as sewage which will be treated and utilized for horticulture purposes in the Estate. The project is expected to be completed within six months.

The newly constructed ‘Jhelum Residential Complex’ named after the river – Jhelum is meant for the staff of Rashtrapati Bhavan. The complex is fully in accordance with Green Building parameters laid down by Ministry of Urban Development. These quarters are constructed under the redevelopment scheme of President’s Estate.
