Prachanda Calls on President Mukherjee

Shri Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Chairman of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (M) called on President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan yesterday (July 17, 2015).
The President said India commends the progress in Constitution drafting since May 2015. It has always supported early finalization and promulgation of the Constitution of Nepal. Recent momentum must be maintained. He reiterated that India remains strongly committed to the success of the peace process in Nepal. India looks forward to the institutionalization of democracy in Nepal in a constitutional and multi-party framework. Nepal’s political stability and economic progress is in India’s interest. He expressed hope that the historic task of writing an inclusive, democratic Constitution will be completed at the earliest.
The President praised Shri Dahal for being the architect of the peace process in Nepal and for making possible the Constituent Assembly elections in November 2013. He said that Shri Dahal’s constructive engagement and support are vital for Nepal’s political transition to be complete and durable.
Responding to the President, Shri Dahal conveyed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the people and political parties of Nepal for the assistance rendered by India in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. He said India's initiative and its pledges have created a very positive impact amongst the people. The Constitution making process should be taken to its logical conclusion. Nepal counts upon the support and cooperation of India.
