Dynamic Nature of World Calls for Adopting and Developing Appropriate Public Policies, Says President

Rashtrapati Bhavan : 18.04.2016

Participants of founding Class of Management Programme in Public Policy at Indian School of Business, Mohali called on the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee today (April 18, 2016) at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Addressing the participants of the course, the President said the scale and speed of changes happening around us today are unprecedented and so are the challenges. This dynamic nature calls for adopting and developing appropriate public policies. What is read in literature about public policy today will change in few years. This calls for constant up-gradation of skills and knowledge even on the part of the specialists. He expressed confidence that ISB, as a globally competitive educational institution has empowered them to face these challenges of continuous change.

The President said the treatise of Chanakya on public policy discourse has always been a guiding force in the area of public finance, urban governance, security and diplomacy. Public Policy is an area of study which has great relevance to our continuing task of nation building.

The President said human capacity has been a key determinant in the rise of nations. Even today, the race among nations is not necessarily won by those with immense resources, but by those who have the capacity to make the most effective use of those resources for building the nation. That capacity is directly related to the ability to make effective public policies and to implement these policies effectively. A good public policy with poor implementation is of no value and significance to society and nation. The President complemented the ISB for having made a good beginning by bringing professionals from private sector and public sector to learn from each other as well as from their Indian and international faculty.
